CICELY MARY BARKER (1895-1973):
Cicely Mary Barker was born in Croydon, South London in 1895.
She used children from her sister's kindergarden as models for her Flower Fairies illustrations,
combining the carm with meticulous botanic accuracy. She thereby created a wonderfull unity between flowers, children and elves.  
In 1923, C.M. Barker's first book, Flower Fairies of the Spring, was published.
Cicely Mary Barker died in Sussex, England in 1973.

Border Fine Arts was founded over 40 years ago in 1974 by John Hammond in an eighteenth-century farmhouse, Middleholm near Langholm. Carefully researched, highly detailed, realistic, and accurately painted wildlife figurines and countryside scenes were created, for which demand grew from a very receptive market place. However Border Fine Arts stopped producing models in 2016.
 
FAIRIES:
A fairy is a type of mythical being or legendary creature, generally described as anthropomorphic, found in the Middle Ages folklore of multiple European cultures, a form of spirit, often with metaphysical, supernatural, or preternatural qualities.
Some scholars believe that fairies were pagan deities forced to suppress their traditions by Christian missionaries. As the acceptance of Christianity grew, fairies were changed from deity status to magical creature status to preserve their traditions. Other scholars argue that fairies are a prehistoric race of people. They claim that fairies inhabited Western Europe until they were driven out by the Celts  and eventually changed into legend.
Fairies are often associated with plants and springtime, depicted as pure figures who possess magical powers. In the tales of fairies, they are more often than not mischievous creatures with dark and evil intentions. In general, a fairy is a creature with humanlike, fluid personality characteristics. Some fairies are helpful, while others are mischievous, and others are evil. Like humans, fairies have quite diverse personality traits.
They are often said to also thrive in woodland communities, underground forest kingdoms, or inhabit lakes, hills and streams and come in many shapes and sizes though most are small.
