Hardcover with dust jacket. Book with green boards and gilt lettering to front in very good condition. Published in 1988 by the Southern African Catholic Bishops' Conference on the 150th anniversary of Griffith's arrival, with 127 pages, b/w photographs and illustrations. Short gift inscription and date on front end page. The d/j has shelf wear, chaffed at top corners. Small paper loss at back next to spine bottom. Griffith was the first resident bishop at the Cape of Good Hope. Part 1 of the diary gives a graphic account of the inconveniences of sea travel. Part 2 deals with the bishop's sea travel yo Algoa Bay and thence his journey by ox-wagon and on horseback to the small towns. No shipping overseas.
