RAYMOND P. SCHEINDLIN is Professor of Medieval Hebrew Literature at the Jewish Theological Seminary of America in New York City. He received his master's degree and rabbinical ordination from the Jewish Theological Seminary and his Ph.D. from Columbia University. Scheindlin, who became a Guggenheim Fellow in 1988, is the author of several books on Hebrew poetry.
