The Cohen Case has passed into South African legal history but it is still avidly discussed by lawyers, psychiatrists and the public alike.
Ronald John Vivian Cohen met and fell in love with his radiantly beautiful wife, Susan, when she was a schoolgirl. They appeared to
be an ideally-suited couple, blessed with wealth, health and lovely children.
On the night of April 5 1970, Susan Cohen was murdered. The savage nature of her wounds showed she must have been attacked by someone
in a frenzy or beyond control.
Found guilty but spared the gallows, Cohen was sentenced to twelve years' imprisonment because of the Judge's finding of extenuating
circumstances. Were they proved? Has a legal precedent been created?
