Description
Alexandre de La Patellière and Matthieu Delaporte direct this modern retelling of the classic novel by Alexandre Dumas. Betrayed by his childhood friend Fernand (Bastien Bouillon), sailor Edmond Dantes (Pierre Niney) is found guilty of a crime he didn't commit and sent to the island prison of Chateau d'If. More than a decade later, having studied fencing with fellow inmate Abbé Faria (Pierfrancesco Favino), who also revealed to him the location of a vast treasure hidden on the island of Monte-Cristo, Edmond realises that the time has come to plan his escape.
Taking the treasure for himself, he reappears as the Count of Monte-Cristo and becomes the talk of Parisian society. His happiness is short-lived however when he learns that Fernand has married Mercédès (Anaïs Demoustier), Edmond's own childhood sweetheart. The cast also includes Anamaria Vartolomei, Laurent Lafitte and Patrick Mille.
