A beautiful book. Lovely pictures of antique and vintage dolls from many cultures and social classes. The writing is charming, and imaginative. We must remember that these old dolls have had many lives.
I love this book--80% of it is amazing pictures of dolls throughout the 19th century & throughout different cultures. The writing may not be for everyone, but I found it very stimulating--densely packed with facts and quotes reflecting on what dolls meant for different cultures during this time. The descriptions the author gives for each photo of the dolls further illuminates cultural significance. Any doll collector or doll maker would benefit greatly from this book.
