This is a study of the Chancery as a court of law at a time when both its officials and procedures were subjected to a process of definition. The book deals first with the men who staffed the court and their problems, particular attention being paid to the acreer of Thomas Egerton. The second section is concerned with the growth of procedural rules. Finally, an attempt is made to describe the status of Chancery, and its position in respect to other courts, at the end of the Elizabethan period.
