Coffee table book
"Limpopo, in the north of South Africa, is the countrys province with the greatest mineral wealth. But most of its people are poor, far too many of them living in dire poverty. In the Mopani District; the rural Nwamitwa area; many of the jobs are positions on farms and agriculture related industries.
Since 1989, however, Kaross has helped more than a thousand people living in a dozen scattered villages to earn a living, to feed and clothe themselves and their children. Thanks to the tireless efforts of everyone involved in the project, our women (and several men) have reason to hope; they have reason to celebrate life.
The lives and experiences of the VaTsonga/Shangaan people are reflected in the beautiful embroidery with which generations have adorned their cultural attire (miceka). Artists by nature, our people are now able to keep this vital aspect of our culture alive, all because of the structure and economic viability which Kaross gives their work.
Kaross is a wonderful project that sustains our culture and our people. Perhaps most importantly, working with Kaross is not like a formal job, meaning that those who benefit from the project are able to work at home while looking after their households. Most of the people involved with Kaross do not have any formal education but they have skills and a tradition of creating beautiful things; skills that Kaross has lovingly harnessed channeled and fostered for more than 20 years
