Reprint edition of the 1988 printing. Book is tight, square, and unmarked. Book Condition: Fine. No DJ as issued. Pictorial heavy laminate boards and spine with bright red lettering on the spine and the front board. 280 pp 4to. Originally subtitled "The Last Word From Paradise: A Pictorial Documentation of the Origins, History & Prospects of The Big Game in Africa", this book weaves Beard's own photographs with vintage historical images into his narrative chronicle of the European exploration and exploitation of The Dark Continent, and the ensuing destruction of much of its native wildlife. A clean pristine copy.

The photographer, Peter Beard (1938 2020) was an American artist,photographer, diarist, and writer who lived and worked in New York City,  and Kenya. His photographs of Africa,  and the journals that often integrated hisphotographs, have been widely shown and published since the 1960s.

Beard traveled to Kenya and working at , he photographed and documented the demise of 35,000  and other wildlife, later to become the subject of this,his first book, The End of the Game. During this time, Beard acquired a property near the  adjacent to the coffee farm owned by Karen Blixen, which would become his lifelong home-base in East Africa.
