The Fighting Ships of the Royal Navy 897-1984 (0713713488)

Originallly published as two books ('The Wooden Fighting Ship in the Royal Navy' and @The Metal Fighting Ship in the Royal Navy') This edition has been fully revised. From the small wooden ships, armed with foot soldiers, with which Alfred the Great defeated the Danes off the Dorset coast in AD 897 to the highly sophisticated frigates, destroyers and aircraft carriers of the twentieth century. The abundant illustrations, many in full colour, are based on original sources, ship plans, models, pictures and photographs principally drawn from the magnificent collection of the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich where the author was a curator for over thirty years.
AUthor EHH Archibald. Hardcover, 416 pages. Pre-owned in very good condition. Dust cover has a tear at the top.
