For many, visiting gardens both large and small, public and private, is one of the pleasures of modern travel.
The most urban New Yorker, Berliner, or Parisian will not miss the gardens of Kyoto or Souchow, Florence or Charleston, when on vacation. Louisa Jones explores ten types of gardens, and for each she proposes ten questions that the visitor might ask, along with suggestions of things to look for and think about. 185 color illustrations.
Excellent in that Louisa Jones (a Canadian, who lives in Provence) poses questions about different types of gardens, e.g. Kitchen gardens, Sculpture gardens, Mediterranean gardens, etc. Each set of Q&A is illustrated with colour photos and then followed by interesting quotations. At the end, 20 famous landscape designers/gardeners select their 3 favourite gardens, and at the very end is an "Etiquette Guide" for garden visitors, including questions one simply must not ask! A unique touch!
