The Golden Compass for the PlayStation 2 is an action-adventure puzzle video game that combines exploration, puzzle-solving, and combat. The game features a demon companion named Pan, who can transform into four different forms: Ermine, Sloth, Hawk, and Wildcat. The Alethiometer, a magical device used to decrypt secrets and unlock bonus content, is central to the gameplay. The game is set in a fantastical parallel universe where the soul of a person resides in the form of animals known as dæmons. It is based on the 2007 film and the 1995 novel by Philip Pullman. The game was developed by Shiny Entertainment and published by Sega, and it was the last game developed by Shiny before their merger with The Collective.
