First Edition, Faber and Faber Ltd, London, 1951. Hardcover, orange/peach cloth boards, with blue author, title and publisher on the spine. Corners of boards are bumped, head and tail of spine are bumped, scuffing and shelf wear, some staining. Previous owner's stamp on front pastedown. Pastedowns, free endpapers and occasional pages throughout are slightly stained and have some lightly foxing. Binding is tidy and intact. Contains numerous black & white photographic plates(Images of the participants), as well as several black and white sketches. An insider's account of the 1944 mass escape from the German prisoner of war camp Stalag Luft III for British and Commonwealth airmen. Brickhill's account provided the basis for the famous film of 1963.
