The Griqua Tokens of the London Missionary Society

The Griqua tokens are among South Africa's rarest and most valuable coinage.

They were introduced in the first quarter of the 1800s at Griqua Town in the Northern Cape by the London Missionary Society. They were not a success and saw only very limited circulation before they were withdrawn. That is actually the reason why they are so scarce today and amongst South Africa's most sought after numismatic treasures.

There are four denominations in the series and at the recent "Gatsby" sale by Heritage Auctions (where the Single 9 Kruger Pond was sold for R41 million) four Griqua Tokens sold for almost R400 000.00.

The book (144 pages augmented by many pictures) is new and personally signed by the author.

We have two copies available.
