Published by The Folio Society, 1967.

In very good condition, protected by a slipcase. The slip case has a tiny bit of wear.
This edition is now out of print and unavailable from the publishers.
After serving Charles I, Hyde had preferred to go into exile and serve Charles II rather than come to terms with the king's enemies. Clarendon combines acuteness of observation and mastery of detail with a breadth and majesty that recall the great Roman historians. He had no pretense of impartiality but neither did he write a justification in which all the king's supporters were heroes. The dignified style of the History disguises the fact that Clarendon was not only a statesman & a historian but also a man who suffered and endured.
