"This book is a personal selection of the best of Obie Oberholzer's photographs from 30 years of journeying through southern Africa. Here are the gems that everyone remembers the classic Obie shots, as well as a number of pictures that have never been seen before. In addition, it includes a selection of Obies prized black and white photographs, which appear here for the first time and which reveal another side of his art.
This overview of a life spent viewing the world through the lens of his camera, tells as much of Obie Oberholzer - photographer, raconteur and free spirit par excellence - as it does of the country and continent he loves. As he has written: I love getting involved in the happy and sad essence of the vast South African lands. There is a haphazard unpredictability that runs through all these different areas, and travel in these parts requires a developed sense of humour.
I love getting myself into storytelling, picture-taking situations. Most they come along unintentionally simply happen along the way but sometimes one must work at them, coax situations into developing and changing.
