Description | Persecuted in France, great numbers of Protestants known as Huguenots fled the country in the late part of the 17th century. Encouraged by the success of the Dutch Free Burghers many refugees settled in the new colony at the Cape of Good Hope. Here they left a legacy which is still felt in modern South Africa today. |
