A fascinating dictionary of plants, designed to be read by gardeners and botanists alike. This work is commonly praised as being the best and most complete work on gardening and garden plants published in the nineteenth century, remaining a standard work on the subject even to this day. Indeed, the Royal Horticultural Society's current 'Dictionary of Gardening' has Nicholson's 'Illustrated Dictionary' as its basis, even retaining its predecessor's layout.
With charming illustrations throughout, and two different plates and a frontispiece in colour to each volume.
