The Jerusalem Bible is an important and highly regarded English-language Catholic Bible, presented here in the 1966 First Standard Edition, with Alexander Jones as General Editor and published by Doubleday & Company, Inc., Garden City, New York. This substantial vintage edition is attractively presented in a flexible black leather-like binding, decorated with gilt lettering and the distinctive Jerusalem Cross to the front cover.
First published as a complete English edition in 1966, The Jerusalem Bible became one of the significant Catholic Bible translations of the twentieth century. Developed from the scholarship associated with the French Bible de Jérusalem, it was produced with contributions from numerous Biblical scholars and literary revisers. The translation is particularly appreciated for combining readable English with extensive introductions, explanatory notes and supplementary material, making it suitable for both devotional reading and more detailed Biblical study.
The Jerusalem Bible contains the Old and New Testaments together with the books included in the Catholic biblical canon. Its traditional presentation is enhanced by the all-gilt text block edges, which give the volume the appearance of a quality family or presentation Bible.
The Jerusalem Bible also incorporates dedicated family-record and genealogical sections, reflecting the longstanding tradition of family Bibles being used not only for religious study but also for preserving records of births and family relationships across generations.
A handsome vintage edition with strong appeal for collectors of Catholic Bibles, Christian literature, Biblical studies, religious books, family Bibles and decorative vintage bindings.
