These pieces were made by John Biccard in his Cape Town Studio. These pieces are made in modest quaantities from ground marble and are collectors items. They are intended to be handled, viewed from all angles and to make you smile, thus giving pleasure. Each piece carries the artists monogram.
On a small unchartered island in the Pacific lived a group of mischevious and naughty chimpanzees. All day long they would play practical jokes on each other. Their flamboyant extoverted leader went by the name of Napoleon Bananaparte. One day a tall ship sailed into the bay to restock with fresh water and fruit. The young scoundrel chimps hid in the bushes and laid traps for the unsuspecting sailors. As the captain led his men up the beach they were met by barrage after barrage of rotting fruit hurled by the hidden chimps. With hoots of laughter and shrill chattering the terrified seamen turned tail and scuttled back to their ship. In all the excitement the captain dropped his hat and coat. Needless to say, this is where Napoleon acquired his unusual outfit.
To this day ships passing that specific island, claim to have sighted a "captain" swinging from the trees followed by many hooting and screaming chimpanzees.
