Jane Franklin (17911875) was a celebrated traveller and explorer. She was the second wife of renowned explorer Sir John Franklin. In 1836, her husband was appointed Lieutenant-Governor of Van Diemens Land (Tasmania). When their ship called at the Cape in November that year, she took advantage of the time on shore to see as much of the Cape Peninsula as possible.
