Mungo Park (1771-1806) was the first traveller from the West who was known to have travelled to the central portion of the Niger River, to explore the west of Africa. The journal of a mission to the interior of Africa in the year 1805  was written about his second exploration which is considered to be a continuation of his 1st volume book, Travels in the Interior Districts of Africa, published in 1779.
