William Shaw was the minister to the 1820 British Settlers in South Africa. The first part of this journal covers the period 1820-21 when Shaw was at Salem laying the foundations of Methodism among the Settlers. The second period, 1827-29 covers his work at Wesleyville among the Gqunukhwebe, the first of the chain of mission stations stretching from the Eastern Cape to Natal.
