Salomon Joubert, the author and previous director of the Kruger National Park having worked at the park for 40 years, shares his thoughts on developments taking place in the largest Southern African wilderness area, taking the reader back to the parks humble beginnings. Joubert's illuminating tour through the Prehistory era and onwards through the five major management eras dating from 1926 to 1994.

In 2007, the First Edition was acclaimed by academics, conservationists, the media and ardent Kruger lovers scattered throughout South Africa. Dr Salomon Joubert revised the original text and other contents, including the index, to create this second edition in 2012..
