This folio is a set of facsimiles of publications (The Ladysmith Bombshell) produced during the Siege of Ladysmith 1899-1900. There are eight black and white decorative title pages. Dedicated to Sir George White, the commander during the siege which lasted between November 2nd, 1899 and February 28th, 1900.
First Edition, Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding, An uncommon first edition thus, being a facsimile reproduction of eight issues of a weekly newspaper made by British soldiers in the Second Boer War. The issues are dated November 1899 to January 1900. With illustrations throughout from Earl Robert, and with much of the text supplied by one George Walter Lines. The siege of Ladysmith was a protracted engagement in the Second Boer War, taking place between 2 November 1899 and 28 February 1900 at Ladysmith, Natal. This fascinating work details the events from the perspective of ordinary British soldiers.
