FIRST EDITION, Published by Stove Prairie Press LLC, October 2009, 35.5 cms x 28 cms x 1.9 cms, condition: very good.

THE LANDSCAPES - ENHANCED EDITION (newly enhanced edition 1st printing  October 2009) by Richard Schmid. Forward by Historian Richard Ormond - Grandnephew of John Singer Sargent 280 pages and 300 color plates This large format book of Richard Schmid's sixty-five years as a landscape painter, with over 300 color images, has been color enhanced using the latest state of the art printing technology, and further enriched with over 100 new captions, and over a dozen new original drawings in the margins. This is the visual tale of an artist and his life-long romance with the colors and light of our earth. With delightfully candid narrative and over 300 full color images, Richard reveals what it is like to go out and capture life as it is happening. The reader will discover how landscape painting is unlike any other form of art; and that artistic skill is only one of the many abilities demanded.

Throughout his career, which saw fifty one-man shows, Richard Schmid promoted art education through his books, articles, workshops, seminars, and television presentations, and he traveled widely for his subjects. Richard held a Doctorate in Fine Art and was a recipient of The John Singer Sargent Medal for Lifetime Achievement.

Since the publication of his landmark book on landscape painting in 2009, Richard has been involved in major projects. The first, in 2011, was a very large painting of Abbotsford House, the manor home of Sir Walter Scott in Melrose, Scotland, which won a viewing and praise from HRH Queen Elizabeth during the grand re-opening ceremonies of the house and visitors center.

Another project, begun in 2011, was the new expanded edition of ALLA PRIMA entitled ALLA PRIMA II, completed in 2013, and now in its fourth printing. Additionally, exhibitions of Richards art were mounted at the National Academy of Science on Cape Cod, and Wellesley College in Boston.

During his distinguished career as a painter, author, and teacher, Richard Schmid had been a candid spokesman for what is known as the Grand Manner, a certain mingling of virtuosity and unrestrained joy in art. At the age of 86, Richard passed away on April 18, 2021. He is survived by his wife Nancy Guzik and his three daughters, Bettina, Gretchen, and Molly Schmid.
