Hardcover. The binding is good. The text block is mostly clean of foxing. Published in 1904 with 439 pages. Blue boards have spots, shelf-rubbed and corners and spine ends are chaffed. On the front board there is a ring caused by maybe a hot mug. On the first title page is a stamp and name and date of previous owner. Many foxing spots on end and title pages. The Index pages have many foxing spots. Frontispiece with tissue guard in good condition. Stamp of ownership on a number of pages. Front page edges are uncut. Richard Southey was of 1820 Settler stock. He fought in the Frontier Wars of the Eastern Cape. He reached two of the highest offices in the colonial government: Colonial Secretary and later Lieutenant-Governor of Griqualand-West. No shipping overseas.
