Own a piece of South African history. For more than a century, the fate of the Kruger Millions has remained a mystery. During the final stages of the Second Anglo-Boer War, vast amounts of gold mined in the Zuid-Afrikaansche Republiek (Transvaal Republic) were secretly removed as President Kruger realized the war was lost.
It now appears that part of the Lost Hoard made its way to Europe, first stored in the Netherlands and then Switzerland, where it was recently auctioned. The historic find of Ponde (pounds) and Half Ponde was purchased by the South African Mint, returned to South Africa, and is now available to collectors.
Presented in a high-gloss wooden display case with a replica ZAR money bag, this set includes an XF-graded Lost Hoard Pond and a limited edition Lost Hoard Mintmarked 1/4 oz proof gold Krugerrand. The pieces are extremely limited: only 233 Half Ponde Single Shaft sets with 1/10 oz Krugerrands, and 677 Ponde sets with 1/4 oz Krugerrands.
The set now for sale contains a Lost Hoard 22carat 1898 gold Pond (full Pond), graded XF with a CLEANED notation (certificate code G22ST1XFDC98), paired with a 2019 22carat proof 1/4 oz Krugerrand featuring the Lost Hoard privy mark. The NGC slab carries a special Lost Hoard designation. Packaging includes a certificate of authenticity and a ZAR money bag.
