Hardcover with dust jacket. Red boards with gilt lettering to spine. Published by Macmillan and Co in 1951 with 351 pages and b/w photographs. The binding is firm, pages crisp end white. Ex-school library book with stamps. On a few pages sentences underlined in ink and at bottom of page 202/203 inscription also in ink, but it has no influence on text. The d/j is in poor condition with paper loss to spine and top front corner. In 1898 the author was sent to take charge of a section of the railway which was then being built from Mombasa to the interior of Uganda. There at Tsavo two lions waged a savage warfare against the staff working on the railway. This later became a major movie.
