Don Francisco de Quevedo gave me a look that I interpreted as it was due, because I went after Captain Alatriste. Let me know if there are any problems, they had said their eyes behind the quevedescos lenses. Two steels make more paper than one. And so, aware of my responsibility, I arranged the dagger of mercy that I had pierced to the belt and went after my master, discreet as a mouse, trusting that this time we could finish the comedy without lunges and in peace, because it would have been a beautiful affront to spoil the premiere to Tirso de Molina. I was far from imagining to what extent the beautiful actress María de Castro was going to complicate my life and that of the captain, putting us both in very serious danger; not to mention the crown of King Philip IV, who in those days literally walked on the edge of a sword. All of which I propose to tell in this new adventure, thus proving that there is no madness to which the man does not reach, abyss to which he does not peek, and launch that the devil does not take advantage when there is a beautiful woman in between.
