On 15 February 2008, Mark Beaumont pedalled through the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, 194 days and 17 hours after setting off on a mission to cycle around the globe. He had travelled 18297 miles solo and unsupported, averaging 100 punishing miles a day, and smashed the Guiness World Record by an astonishing 81 days.
This is the story of that incredible feat of endurance. After battling broken wheels in Europe, then the hostile mountains and deserts of Turkey, Iran and Pakistan, a saddle-sore Mark crossed Asia. In Australia, the heat and a ferocious headwind threatened his resolve, before a terrible crash in America nearly ended the journey.
By the time Mark had raced night and day to reach Paris again, he had completed a remarkable adventure.
