Introduction by Bernard Fergusson, list of frontis + 3 black-and-white photos, map. "Desiring more active service and seduced by the magic name of Wingate, the author, a sergeant in the Royal Sussex Regiment in West Africa, volunteered for service in Burma in the spring of 1944. He was presently deposited in the 'White City', one of the impregnable blocks on the Japanese lines of communication two hundred miles behind their front. The difficulties involved in holding this block were many and complicated, but a far greater difficulty arose when they had to leave it. What followed was one of the most terrible and heroic marches in history."

Hardcover - no DJ but with plastic wrap. Overall in a good condition.
