Two original items:

1) The Matabeleland News, and Mining Record, Vol. 1 No. 6 of Saturday May 5th, 1894. 8 pages, assumed complete, cyclostyle or stencil duplication reproduction of the original handwritten copy, for circulation. Each leaf has a small strip of tape, likely added later, binding them together. Page 3 contains likely later red pencil underlining of an article related to the opening of a Standard Bank branch "here in the fort, welcoming the manager and accountant". Local events, news, and other items of social interest are reported on, and several advertisements for businesses of the day are contained in this copy. Varying page sizes and paper types, the largest being 335mm x 210mm, but all close to that size.

2) Pages 7 - 10 of The Mashonaland Times, of Wednesday 16th August 1893. Page 7 focuses mostly on the Defence of Mashonaland, the others on local events and advertisements. Page 10 is dedicated to Mr. Matabele Wilson, who had returned recently (to Salisbury), reporting that "the King gave strict orders that no white man in Mashonaland was to be interefered with, but that the impi was to wipe out every Mashona and Makalaka in the country. They were to take no slaves, their orders were 'kill everyone, spare not.'" It continues with observations and opinions of Wilson of Lobengula, Jameson, and the country in general. Page 8 contains results of a Military vs Civilians cricket match, in which a Capt. A. Wilson made 6 and 4, the military losing to the civilians by an innings and 17 runs. Approximateley 320mm x 220mm. Cyclostyle or stencil duplication reproduction of the original handwritten copy, for circulation. This weekly newspaper ran for 62 editions, with a circulation of around 180 copies, from June 1891, and became The Rhodesia Herald, on October 20 1892 (Source: Internet).
