Published by Pelican Books, 1963,softcover, illustrated, index, 155 pages, condition: new.
Initially published in 1958 by Pelican this brief book (155 pages inc bibliography) written by Glyn Daniel still seems to be one of the few works on the sorts of megaliths that dot parts of Europe. It is written in a style that is admittedly rather dry, as straight forward as possible but very much aimed at the person who has some experience in reading texts on ancient history.
The illustrations in the work range from line drawings showing examples of the various styles of megalith - and these really do help the layman grasp what on earth is being talked about in the text - through to black and white photographs of a number of real life examples. Overall shots are included as are photographs of the detail of some of the engravings decorating these megaliths.
What stood out for me is the huge amount of uncertainty about these structures.
