The 40GB, 80GB 160GB re-release PS3's and the 120GB and 250GB slim version of the PS3 are not backward compatible PS2 games because all hardware chips from the former console are omitted. This was done for cost cutting purposes. The 60GB PS3 is the most highly sought after unit.
