The New Church is South Africas first privately owned museum of contemporary art showcasing exhibitions drawn from the collection of Piet Viljoen. For the second exhibition presented by The New Church, curator Kirsty Cockerill has selected works from the collection that focus on notions of Pop art and its engagement with satire and irreverence.

The curatorial strategy has allowed for an exhibition at play with itself. It stands as an ambiguous statement, a darkly humorous and cautionary tale larger than its individual parts. The artworks talk from the past to the present. Sometimes they banter with each other, sometimes they whisper to the future. The narrative is not linear, much like the South African social and political landscape, it goes round and round, again and again a puppy chasing its tail.
