The Pace of the Ox: The Life of Paul Kruger
President Paul Kruger, thought by many to be "an illiterate old man in a top hat", was a leader with much courage and greatness in his soul. His history carries with it the childhood of his nation. Marjory Juta started his story at age nine in 1835 as a voorloper at the head of a span of oxen in front of the Kruger wagon, part of the Great Trek into the wild interior. It ended with the Boer War of 1899-1902 and Kruger's exile.
With 9 black and white photographs and 2 fold-out maps at the end of the book.
A rare first South African edition published 1936 by Constable & Company, London.
