The Pagan Land
South Africa 1830. The land across the Orange River was an unexplored wilderness where drought, disease and hostile tribes await ... but it was better than the yoke of English rule and crushing taxes, or the boredom of civilisation. And so the Boers and others packed their wagons and trekked north. One such was Matthew Eastman, who travelled with Klyn, a young giant with some knowledge of the way ahead. Another was the ivory hunter Cord Laidler, followed by Katherine Spenser, a stunning woman who flaunted rigid convention. Awaiting them was Mzilikazi of the Ndebele Kingdom, planning to crush the interlopers in one great onslaught.
