And so the Boers and others packed their wagons and trekked north. One such was Matthew Eastman, who travelled with Klyn, a young giant with some knowledge of the way ahead. Another was the ivory hunter Cord Laidler, followed by Katherine Spenser, a stunning woman who flaunted rigid convention. Awaiting them was Mzilikazi of the Ndebele Kingdom, planning to crush the interlopers in one great onslaught.
