The chequered history of this late 18th century building, which has seen use as a lodging house, Army and Navy barracks as well as an emergency hospital for Boer POW's at Bellevue Camp and British troops. From Widow Hurter's lodging house and Annex to the noble but sad role of a hospital during the Anglo Boer War to finally an army barracks through the two World Wars. Today the building has been restored and serves once more as a senior naval residence.
