The Peninsular War was fought in the icy passes of the high Pyrenees and on the burning wastes of the Sierra Morena; a war of infinite cruelty and yet remarkable courtesy; a war in which debonair British officers fought alongside ragged Spanish partisans. Roger Parkinson's book, the second in the series The British at War, edited by Ludovic Kennedy, recaptures the horror, excitement and drudgery of history's first guerrilla war. The many superb illustrations in colour and black and white perfectly compliment the stirring text.

Book is in excellent condition and was awarded as history prize to one Jonathan Luke Stubbs. Clean and unmarked, save for the prize certificate pasted down on the half title. Dust wrapper in very good condition, lightly edge word with one small tear (approx. 1 cm long) at top of spine.
