This book contains some exceptional coloured plates of famous express trains. There are some very interesting pictures of track laying and bridges reminiscent of the great age of steam before the second war.
This was the first in a new series of books dedicated to Britain's railways at the time of nationalisation, the aim being to celebrate the history of the spread and development of railways, the construction of track beds, bridges, viaducts, embankments, tunnels etc.

Hard Cover. Green textured buckram with gilt titling and decoration to the spine that is lightly sunned. The two bottom corners on the fore edge are cut off about 8mm from the corners.
