Introduction
He answered and said to them, “When it is evening you say, ‘It will be fair weather, for the sky is red’; and in the morning, ‘It will be foul weather today, for the sky is red and threatening.’ Hypocrites! You know how to discern the face of the sky, but you cannot discern the signs of the times.” – Matthew 16:2-3
We are living in a prophetic season and we need to know the times in which we are living.
Before the outpouring of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, there was a prophetic period which foretold the coming of the Messiah and details of the events that would take place in the last days.
The last prophetic voice of the Old Covenant was that of John the Baptist, who confirmed the ministry of Jesus.
After Pentecost, the first prophetic voice was that of Peter who, basing his prophecy on the prophet Joel, proclaimed that there would be an outpouring of God’s Spirit in the last days which would be similar to that experienced at Pentecost. Peter implied that there would be a second Pentecost experience in the last days.
Peter’s prophecy differed to that of Joel.
“And it shall come to pass afterward that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh”… Joel 2:28
“And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh”… Acts 2:17
After Pentecost, the apostolic ministry was birthed. The message of the Gospel was preached everywhere and churches were established.
We are living in the last days and just as the prophetic preceded the first Pentecost, I believe the prophetic now precedes the times in which we are living as we earnestly await the outpouring of God’s Spirit in the last days. This is evident in the large-scale launch of prophetic ministries world-wide.
The Bible teaches us that the Gospel will be preached to everyone in the last days. I believe this will happen after the second Pentecost, when God will once again release the apostolic anointing on His church.
As we look at the above events, I firmly believe we are living in prophetic times and all believers should be encouraged to discover their gifts and to develop their prophetic anointing.
