Hardcover with d/j. Red boards with gilded lettering to spine and front board. Binding is good and text block is clean. First published in 1942 as historical novel about the crucifixion of Jesus. This edition printed in Great Britain in 1954 with 508 pages and beautiful colour illustrations. Name of previous owner on end page and gift inscription with names on reverse side. The d/j has tears and paper loss along the edges and foxing on the inside. The book was one of the best selling titles of the 1940's. In the 1950's "The Robe" was filmed with Richard Burton and became a Biblical epic.The robe is the seamless robe worn by Jesus and which was won by a Roman soldier as a gambling prize.
