The famous quatrains of Omar Khayyam in a very special edition, beautifully illustrated by Willy Pogany. This 1909 edition combined translator Edward FitzGerald's texts of the first edition (1859) and the 4th edition (1879), and contains 75 quatrains. Khayyam (1048-1131) was a Persian poet known as "the Astronomer-Poet of Persia". His quatrains are published in hundreds of English editions.
First published in this edition in 1909 by George G Harrap & Co, London. Illustrated by Willy Pogany. Printed by Vincent Brooks, Day & Son, Lithographers, London. Condition: Good for its age. The 24 colour plates are pasted on brown paper boards. Decorative designs accompany each quatrain. Some pages foxed and stained. Hinge exposed at some inside pages. Gift inscription in front. Lavishly illustrated pastedowns. Top edge of book block gilded, side and bottom edges rough-cut. Hardboard covers have wear and tear at edges and top and tail of spine. Marks on back cover. Title faded on spine.
