The Namib Desert lies on the coast of South West Africa between Windhoek and the sea; barren and almost unwatered, inhabited by only wandering herds of springbok and zebra, by jackals and leopards, ceaselessly searching for the brackish water-holes without which they would die: yet it was here that two men sought refuge. Henno Martin and Hermann Korn were German geologists working in Windhoek when war and the threat of internment overtook them. They drove into the desert, taking only their dog, Otto, two old guns and a wireless set.
For two and a half years they lived almost the life of stone-age men, shooting game and tracking down water-holes, forced to move their camp several times for fear of discovery. They improvised houses out of stone and wood collected on the spot and lived a life of extreme simplicity and hardship.
Hard cover, fairly good condition. Published in 1957. Dust jacket has a plastic covering so it's still in good nick.
