HAND SIGNED by the illustrator Ze'ev Raban. Complete with 26 colour-illustration raised plates, 24 of which are still protected by tissue guards, publisher's embossed cloth boards, illuminated in gilt and silver, illuminated in stunning gilt and silver ornamental endpapers. Gilt decoration and title on spine. Cloth boards a bit stained but content and stunning endpapers are clean. There is also an inscription: " To Mr and Mrs Izak Buirski/ with very best wishes on the Occasion of your marriage/ The Bnoth Zion Association Committee/ April 9th 1930." Isaac Buirski (1901 -1956 ) and Livia Buirski born Zuckerman (1905 - 1992 ) were the original owners. Livia was the sister of Solly Zuckerman, known as Baron Zuckerman ( 1904-1993) , the famous British scientist born in Cape Town. Signatures and signed books by Ze'ev Raban (1890-1970 )are excessively rare. He was one of the founders of the Israeli art world and a leading member of the Bezalel school which fused oriental art ( for instance Persian and Syrian styles ) with the Art Nouveau.
