 The Story of Boxing

by Trevor C Wignall

(Boxing writer for the Daily Mail and Daily Express and boxing historian)

with

32 illustrations including two cartoons by Charles Grave

The story of the birth and rise of boxing, from the days of rural, bare-knuckle contests in 1727 to major gloved title fights in the 1920's. An essential reference for anyone interested in boxing.

An Englishman, Trevor Wignall, wrote the story of boxing from the days when fight training consisted of "three doses of salts, three sweats, three vomits, for three weeks, with food three-parts dressed,". The book is written with the sanity, the interest and the respectability of diction that is the hallmark of good literature.

Original red cloth, spine sunned, minor damage and rubbing to rear face; ex Keiskammahoek Public Library with original card and return-date list and the usual rubber stamp marking on occasional pages.

Some foxing throughout but very good reference and reading copy

London, Hutchinson, 1923, First Edition. 8vo. 319pp.
