This book chronicles the arrival of the Settlers of 1820 on the shores of Southern Africa; their location on the Eastern Frontier of the old Cape Colony as a buffer against the increasing migration of the Bantu tribes westwards into the Colony; their early pioneering efforts to establish themselves in the face of seemingly insurmountable hardships and obstacles; the narrowly averted collapse of the infant Settlement through drought, famine, flood, hostile invasion and war; and the eventual advance of its sturdy founders to peace, security and prosperity.
