The 1937 Coronation was historic for two main reasons: it had been planned for another monarch and it was the last Great Imperial Coronation festooned with rajahs and sultans, chiefs and Lt-Governors. Edward VIII had abdicated in the midst of the coronation plans. Considerable work went into rearranging the planning for the new King and his Queen.
